Hi

I'm currently in year 12 and wanting to go ANU I just want to know the required ATAR for Bachelor of Business and Commerce and what subjects they expect you to do.

Thank you :D

The harder maths you do the better off you will be.

None. But assumed knowledge is:-
ACT: Advanced Mathematics Major
NSW: HSC Mathematics
QLD: Mathematics B or Mathematics C
SA/NT: Mathematics 1 (single) or Mathematics 1 (double) or Mathematics 2
TAS: Mathematics Stage 2 or Mathematics Stage 3
VIC: Mathematical Methods 3/4 or Specialist Mathematics 3/4
WA: Applicable Mathematics or Calculus
IB: Mathematics (SL) OR Mathematics (HL)

I'm doing finance now, if you planned on majoring in finance I think you will have a great deal of trouble, this from the first semester. Without even year 12 general I think you will have trouble with microeconomics 1 and maybe accounting which I think are both compulsory for most majors, statistics is a challenge for me, even having done extension maths, finance I think would be doable on 2unit but general would make it difficult.

A major in say marketing might not be too bad but I don't know.

If you've done business studies or economics it might be easier, but with no maths it's not unreasonable to say you won't pass a great deal.

Yes I'm planning to major in marketing, that was one of reasons why I dropped to general maths and I got wrong advice from teachers that it would be better to get a higher ATAR doing general maths than getting a lower ATAR doing mathematics.oh well I will see.

Is mathematics (2 unit-NSW) a needed subject for business or just assumed knowledge?

Thank you so much for the advice I really appreciate it :)

If you need to do MATH-coded courses, e.g. MATH1003/1005, then yes, 2U Maths is an official prerequisite. I'm not sure about the Commerce/Econ faculty courses though.

However, if it says 2U Maths is assumed knowledge, then I'd strongly recommend you do a bridging course or similar. You will almost certainly struggle with stats and economics courses right from the start.

putting aside the ATAR requirements, the sense to look up information on their website and not to post threads twice is a highly regarded skill :p

chansthename is actually right. You trust a random stanger on the internet for advice on your future, even though the information is easily available on the anu website.

No application is required. All eligible applicants to ANU will be automatically considered. This is great !
