I am not sure.

Since the West are capitalsit countries with mostly 70% of industry in service with a high standards of living with many luxuries. India and China are capitalist nations with primary industries with the lowest wages and a huge difference between the poor and the rich, and the City and Rural.

Its not like they actually are competting for world power like what happen in World War 1, or the colonial wars.

I'm sick of this, OMG China is going to be GREAT one day crap. We already know, we don't care and those that do will be trying to make a profit from it.

China will become great through free trade, and no totalitarian regime can survive under a free market.

if china (God Forbid) were to have hurricane - does anyone think they will handle it better than the US?? (im neutral on this i gtg! :) )
what the hell? do u mean how they would handle the cleanup if it was the same amount of damage?

because china has some massive cities and alot if chinas populstion resides in these small areas iam sure china would have suffered alot more damage if one of their big cities has been hit.

cleaning up? well i dunno but iam gonna say that if the worlds superpower had trouble, then an up and comming yet still poverty stricken country with little value for life would have trouble.

There is One major difference between America and empires of the past and that is contemporary humane notions. The world of the past was ruthless and nations were attacked and corrupt etc. well beyond the instances of today. America on the other hand, has the benifit, of the UN etc. globalistaion and much more. The world is small and weak now, and America controls it with cooprorations, alliances and its military. We dont have to worry about China and India. America will stay in its place as the Only world superpower and nobody can defeat it.

P.S. If there was to be some incredible war against America, it wouldnt be China or India that managed to defeat them, as they are simply too weak. However a combined Europe, Russia included, may be able to. Of course theres no reason for such a war, so we dont have to worry. Someone also mentioned Nukes before. America has many times over the amount of sophisticated weaponry that china and india has. It is far more destructive, advanced and capable, not to mention they can defend themselves far more effectively than china and india can.

I base the following post on the cyclical theory of change (for all those society n culture bunnies who are probably sick of hearing about this, lol).

America, as a society, is dying. They are relying on consumption to keep the economy strong, and are focusing on themselves too much. It is also biting off more than it can chew as far as military commitments go. It has reached the zenith of its powers, and is now slowly, but surely, dying off. Notice how the Aussie dollar is worth more against the US dollar these days?

China, on the other hand, is remarkably similar to what America was about 60 years ago. It's building its power base, the economy is rapidly expanding... and show me a world city that has no Chinatown! The population is huge, and it's emigrating now the communist government is going by the wayside, slowly, as it embraces capitalism and becomes a modernised society. Look out world when China gets angry and starts a war... or starts to get its act together and embrace modernity!

pffft, I sure as hell won't be taking America's side in its quest for continued world domination.

Other states are catching up not only China and India, but the European countries are combining and will one day form a new EU military force to look after their own security, replacing the current American dominated NATO. But the shift in world power and influence will not be from other countries developing more advanced weapons than America but rather their economies growing stronger. The shift of power to the East will be the same as the economic rise of the US away from old Europe in the late 1800s to early 1900s.

The world of the future say in around 50 years time will be a multi-polar world all with regional trading blocs, with a strongly combined EU dominating the West, China dominating the East, and India dominating the South. America will still be around but they will no longer be able to act as god of the world anymore. They will remain the kingpin on the American continent dominating Canada and South America.

I'm not familiar with the cyclical theory of change. What does it suggest?

Also what do you mean that America is relying on consumption to keep the economy strong? What would be the alternative (instead consumption)?

So you hate what you call 'imperialist' America but you'd embrace a similar China?
