They need their Halal meats and they want it fresh and done the traditional way.
I couldn't stop cringing throughout the video, but I sure do love Dr. Temple Grandin.
What I don't understand is why they're against stunning the animal before slaughter. I know they do it in Australia, prior to or immediately after slicing their throat, depending on which Halal-slaughter abattoir you look at and yes, I know that they have to comply with Australian standards. The animal is unconscious but still alive so it's not like it goes against their law or anything, right?
This guy believes that it would be abusive to stun them. Yet they kick, prod and whip them just to get them into position. Not only does this go against the rules and regulations set out, but it also reduces the quality of the meats particularly due to stress, bruising and the time it takes for the blood to drain from the animal's body.
tl;dr
This makes me sick. It also greatly reduces productivity and the quality of meat... Why do it the hard way when you can get a better result with an easier method?
