HL2 should run great, and in COD2, there's a setting to run it with DirectX7 which will help lots (will even be able to crank it to full ;p)

What's with the sudden re-emergence of nvida? It seemed a few months ago ATI was number one.
Yes, ATi's X1800 cards were pretty much ahead over the 256MB 7800GTX by a small margin. Then nVidia wooped out the cake by suddenly releasing a 512MB version of the GTX, except it also boasted a 30% overclock over the 256MB version.. which in turn made it slaughter the flagship X1800XT. The only real way for ATi to counter this is to increase the pipelines, but this requires significant R&D, probably not feasible and hence now we have nVidia the king of this round.

nVidia has been ahead for a while in the mid-range market thanks to the 6600GT, but it took over the top end with the June release of the 7800GTX. Currently, it has the best performing GPUs across the the board, and we're waiting to see what ATi's next-gen card can do.

Yeah, mid-range nVidia has been woopin' butt since the Geforce 6s. Remember the X800PRO vs. 6800GT battle.. woo, didn't ATi get burnt in that one.

I think all the brands are pretty similar, except for BFG whom offers a lifetime warranty.

And its factory overclocked.

Some 6600GT's have faster core speeds than other brands
(I have an XFX, and I think its clocked faster than some of the cheaper brands)
