Let me rephrase the question:

Which university has the best toilet paper?

So yer what's the best uni for an arts degree
it depends on what you want to do in that arts degree. What majors are offered by universities can vary a lot, and they can have strong areas and weak ones. eg. Macquarie has an amazing ancient history program, so if you are interested in ancient history I would recommend that- or USYD if were happy only doing classics. On the other hand, UNSW has basically no ancient program to speak of.

ANU can be good for politics, international studies etc. Think about what you might be interested in studying- and then look at what the universities offer in those areas. :)

The best in NSW is USYD, however they have a horrid government department, the ANU outranks USYD at everything except medieval history and hebrew and yiddish.
So if you're willing to go to the ANU, go to the ANU.

So if USyd is the best in NSW for Arts, what would be the best in Melbourne?
