Dotpoint 2.6 says analyse progress in the recent development and use of a named biopolymer
What are the recent developments of biopol i was thinking about how they take the strain from cupriavidus metallidurans and put it into E.Coli but they started doing that like 10 years ago, is this still relevant? what else have they done?

From my notes:

The recent progress in terms of development of Biopol have included biotechnological advancements such as genetically engineered E.Coli to produce polyhydroxyalkanoate rather than growing A.Eutrophus in tanks with carbon based food sources and then isolating and purifying them. This has the advantages of:
1. Faster growth → More economically viable
2. Better yields
3. Easier recovery and production → less waste
4. Cheaper substrates can be used to grow the bacteria e.g.. whey, molasses and agricultural wastes

The recent progress in terms of uses of Biopol include:
1. Increasingly used for medical applications due to its biodegradability and biocompatibility, where no fossil fuel alternative may exist
2. Increasingly used for the production of new items that otherwise present a disposal problem due to its biodegradability
