CoB don't sound really like melodic death to me... and yes i am aware of what proper BM vocals are like. Personally I hate melodic death for the first part, it just dosen't agree with me.

They are catergorised on Metal Archives as "Power/Speed Metal with harsh vocals"

no, but I do see it as a very good authority on metal. Also its a good way to clarify things straight up, instead of having pages long of inane arguments about crap.

Hatebreeder was the first CoB song I heard, and yeah it does sound a bit like melodic stuff, but the band's stuff in general dosen't.

well Opeth are generally called prog metal, but you're on the right track - bands like Burzum, Emperor, Darkthrone etc are in that sort of category.

Theres a fair bit of debate about what is 'tr00' BM, generally there is the scandinavian type stuff, then NSBM, which has a more overtly fascist sort of bent, then theres 'viking' metal to do with norse legends and all that sort of stuff, black/thrash along the lines of Destroyer 666, and it gets even more complex when you start talking about genre's such as melodic black and so on.
