hey guys for anyone who's doing/has done russia and the ussr as a national study, what would you say was most significant/had the greatest impact on society/the effectiveness of their consolidation in terms of either political, social, economic (and why) - this is for an essay response, my school doesn't really teach us how to write modern essays but i heard that you need to make a judgment on what had the most impact and so far my essays have mostly js been describing the actions the bolsheviks took. tysm!!

If you're talking about specific events i'd say the October Coup had the greatest impact for the following reasons: the Provisional Government was removed, the bolsheviks became legitimate leaders, military backing became stronger (red guards), and they gained control over key infrastructure including transport, factories etc. Which you can link to the fact this [insert judgement] consolidated power through the elimination of political opponents and allowing the establishment of Sovnarkom which provided centralised control for the Bolsheviks to avoid simply retelling the events in your essay.
Describing the actions isn't inherently bad you just need to make sure you elaborate on the effect that those actions had, which is the more important part of your essay

Obviously you may not agree with me cuz at the end of the day its YOUR essay and judgement, but thats what i would suggest.
