I got UAI 93.45. I know for sure I got the full 5 bonus points which places my selection rank up to 98.45. The cut off for single degree commerce is 95.2 for 2008. My question is, do I have a good chance of getting in? Is it 100% certainty?

Thx everyone.

It lowers the cut-off, instead of increasing your UAI. But yes it seems likely.

Yes. They get added automatically; no need to apply.

I got 90, is there anyway i could get in?
Well if you got 90.00, then you may not get in, cos the cut-off is 95.20 last year and it may increase/decrease (wouldn't have a clue which way it would go this year). If you're lucky and it goes down you'll get in with the 5 bonus points. I'm assuming you got 90UAI on the dot.

Yeah, I reckon 5 "Bonus UAI" is a bit of joke. Same applies to Macquarie as well. Actually, tonnes of unis have bonus UAI scheme nowadays.
doesn't apply to Actuarial studies @ Macq, and for good reason

can't believe you could theoretically get into UNSW Commerce with 90.20 last year UAI, and be allowed to do an actuarial major

Yeah, I was aware of that. Bonus Schemes don't seem to apply to courses that seem to have relatively high cut-off and popularity with highly academic students such as Law Combined, International Commerce and etc.

UNSW is even lenient with its law courses as well. You can like get in with 95 UAI with WAM of 75 or whatever as a transfer. (but that's not a bonus scheme...)

And wholeheartedly agreed. 90.20 -> actuarial major, OMG....that's ridiculous.

that's because some people get dragged down by their poor english marks

i know a few ppl who are very good at maths and would do probably do well in actuaries, who achieved high band 6 for both 3/4u maths but their uai is in the low 90's due to english.
so uai isnt a real indicator whether they are capable undertaking a course.

but really, no one in their right mind would ever think of taking actuaries if maths isnt their forte lol

cuz uai = dificultii of da coarse amirite???!!!
uai is a measure of popularity, nothing more. some courses are uai-inflated in the sense, that they are not difficult but because so many people want to do them the entry criteria is up.
