fancy finding you commenting here my dear katie.
state governments are inefficient, unwieldly, costly and excessively bureaucratic.
Bob Carr is a man i have a lot of regard for, but that is not to say i like nor respect him. He's an excellent politican, but i also think that Hitler was an excellent politician. That's not to say that one is the same as the other and nor is it to say that i agree with the policies of either. I am simply saying that they are/were both calculating, political machines.
The problem with this sort of polly is that they're frequently pig headed, no matter how articulate or charasmatic they are when speaking publicly.
Having seen (in person) Carr and Brogden battle it out during question time and having watched the broadcast of the federal parliament's question time i have come to the conclusion that they're a bunch of school children, they all are. The distinction i make between State and Federal Parliament is that State Parliament behaves like primary school children whilst the Federal Parliament behaves like High School Students. I'm not trying to say that they're any more mature, because we all know that High School is not that much better, in terms of maturity, than Primary School... High School Students are far more sophisticated and articulate however.
I dont see why we need a bunch of Primary School Children running the state (and you wonder why the trains dont run (properly), the road quality is diminishing, we've got a state school V private school funding imbalance and we've had riots in Sydney... just to name few). Sure, not everything is the fault of the State Parliament. S51 of the Constitution limits the responsibility of the State and Federal Parliaments... but this document is 100 years old. We're beginning to see the effects that having ineffective State parliaments have. States are bickering with the Federal Parliament and politics is beginning to transend lines that were once extremely clear... they're now significantly blurred.
This has all come from Brogden V Carr. oops.
My answer is, put simply, Carr is the better polly but Brogden is of my preferred party. The beauty of my philosophy is that i offer complete support to the Liberal Party, but i dont hold any contempt for the ALP.
The question, and i think its a far more important one, i ask is 'Do we need a State Parliament?'
