Anyone doing/ interested in Bachelor of Science or Medical Science?

I'm keen to do Pharmacy in sydney uni but the UAI is 97.45. I was thinking of doing BMedsci in the first year if i don't get into pharmacy.

I just notice that BS and BMedsci share some common subjects but BS has more subjects studied and the UAI is less than BMedsci. What do we do in the first year of Bachelor of Science and/or Medical Science?

The UAI skyrocketed for Pharmacy last year. God knows what it'll do this year.

At UNSW, BSc and BMedSci share some common subjects (basic chemistry, science and maths) but later on, the two degrees become different. Both are equally good. If medical/biology sorta stuff is your thing, go for a BMedSci. If you're not sure, but you like Science, go for BSc.

I think B Science and B Med Sci are similar in the first year (but with Med Sci students obviously studying at a higher level in some subjects). But I'd go with the B Med Sci.

Sorry... the uai for pharmacy is 97.05 plus STAT. Well, there was a careers expo for all unis in UWS last term and apparently, I asked a lady about pharmacy and received a brochure.

b med sci and b sci have similar course structures in first year... from wut i know, aprt from you will need to do life science chemistry in the first year rather than chemistry 1a, which is more general... and also, you will have to do biology i think...

med sci has uai ~93in 02 i think... but b sci is lower if i am not wrong...

personally, (since i do b sci), i'd prefer b sci, simply because it gives u more scope... since u hardly do specialise in ur first year under grad, unless u have a very definite goal in the future wut do u want to do...

oh yea, btw, for pplz considering doin chem ssp, do NOT do med sci... since the chem ssp replaces chem 1a, NOT life science chem...

I don't know about the other unis, but at UTS you can follow any of the specialised Science degrees (like Biotechnology, Medical Science, Nanotechnology etc) in the Bachelor of Science course simply by choosing the relevant subjects. Then, if you so choose, you may apply at the end to "Transfer - Graduating" which is where you transfer to your specialised degree (eg BMedSc) and immediately graduate. It's a great system, with very few subjects restricted to students from particular courses. I think only courses like the BSc (Hons)(Applied Chemistry - Forensics) require direct entry.

Yep... Bachelor of Science has a lower uai than medical science. By the way, what career opportunities are for medical science and science? Anyone? Just wanna know specifically.

Apparantly there is a great demand for chemistry professors right now...

Depending on your major, you can find jobs in research, teaching, journalism... list goes on and on

don't sound high pay jobs to me...

tho by no means am i criticising science... i love science, tho stereotypically, you tend to think science as not high pay jobs....

sigh its all about the moey these days...

think about it...whats the good of having a high paid job if all u did was earn money?...go home and sleep and eat...only to face another boring day. where would you have the time to buy goods and furthermore to enjoy them?.

people money shouldn't be a defining factor in your decision of career

if the idea of teaching science appeals to you then do it

for the record lecturers get above the national median wage...so you will end up with a roof over your head, clothes on your back and a meal on the table at least...with lots left over to raise a family and buy stuff
