Keep in mind that Page used a combination of Gibson and Fender. Hell, he uses both on stairway to heaven alone.

Not a fan of the strats whatsoever.

I actually saw the les paul's as being more versatile.

but a funny choice to be choosing between the two, cause I take them as playing 2 different styles.

I think the telecasters are pretty versatile, but every guitar has its limits.

depends what your playing.
i have always been a fan of stats, but lps tend to give a chunkier sound, due to thier fuller body, which allows the sound to resonate through the body, however, they are not as playable as strats...
i own a ltd mh400, that is loosely strat shaped, and an esp eclipse - les paul shaped. esp plays much better, but it is an esp....
if your playing rockier stuff, or metal stuff go the lp, if your going for a bluesy tone hit up your strat.
