Hey all.
Am studying a split B. Communication Studies / B. Laws and (like everyone else) I just want to get out of uni asap. Unluckily for me I know absolutely nothing about the way uni courses work; is it possible to just abandon your other component and do plain law? Would finish over a year sooner and it'd be cheaper and yeah.
Thoughts?

NRSL standing for what? Basically I just want to escape my current course outline of one or two law units a semester and do something more like the Non Grad Law thing where you just do two a semester till there's none left.

I believe ANU has a straight law course, but most unis require you to do either a combined course or grad law (after you've completed a first degree).

NRSL = non-recent school leaver

UTS has vanilla law, and judging by your 2nd degree (communications) you quite possibly go there.

I liked the original thread title.

Yes it was cute.

But when people search for threads already on the topic, it will be easier for them to find this discussion under the current thread title.

UOW, ANU and UCan (although I DONT recommend the last university with a 40% grad unemployment stat) all offer straight law degrees, the ANU frowns upon it and UOW recommends it as designed for 'those who want to be lawyers when they graduate' in addition the ANU may be difficult to transfer into depending on which uni you come from

Re: Can you just do vanilla law?

I did the transfer in question last year (albeit from BMedSc/LLB) at UOW, and experienced no problems in doing so. Just be careful with how your uni has set up preresquites and things - by the time you are actually able to do some of the subjects required as part of your law degree, you may end up spending the exact same amount of time at uni as if you were doing a single degree - only with a lighter workload.

You don't have to do gay law, you can do straight law if you like.

In order to better reflect Wollongong's liberal student atmosphere, UOW will be introducing the nation's first bisexual law program in 2008.

What's with the insistence that people do combined degrees? I suppose it's to make people well rounded or something.

not many undergraduate law degrees are offered as single-degree programs.

Why does law have to be combined anyway?? (just a question to think about; doesn't have to be answered)

It's obviously a legal profession conspiracy to make lawyers one level above and one step ahead of everyone else.
