Of course, school rankings change yearly (pretty much the only one that doesn't change is Ruse at 1).

Depends on the strength of the cohort, as well as number of students in the cohort (this can affect things both positively and negatively, depending on the strength of the cohort).

Yes. Rankings are determined after a cohort's performace by looking at the number of B6's that they got as a percentage of their total attempts. Rankings do change every year for pretty much every school (except for schools like Ruse).

It's like asking whether the results of the Sydney City to Surf marathon can change each year. The results reflect the performance in a past event (i.e. HSC results for a year) and hence the school rankings will naturally change depending on the performance of each year/cohort. It just so happens that each year Ruse always comes out on top (for a variety of reasons) and hence it looks like it's static.

The results from previous years have no affect on the current year. Technically a 400's school could come second next year.

My school is a bit of hit and miss. In 2009, my school rank was like 615. After the 2009 HSC, it jumped to like 581. And then after my cohort (2010), it jumped to mid 200s, iirc. Then in 2011, not sure what happened but I assume it'd fall to around 500. Haven't seen the 2011 HSC rankings yet.

So lesson is: yes, yes it can.

Generally, it will stay near a certain point.

eg Baulkham Hills will usually stay in the top 5 and Ruse will normally be 1st (and has been since 1995). A 500th school one year will most likely be near 500th the next years (400-600) and a 30s school would/could generally be ranging from 25-45 depending totally on the year HOWEVER a 500th school theoretically can become 1st the next year or Baulkham Hills can theoretically drop to 500th.

Anything can happen.

You did have a small cohort though.

The discrepancy between a 250th school and 500th school is quite small. Using your high school as an example, you had 9 Band 6's out of 153 attempts, so if you were to drop to 500th rank, that would mean 3 Band 6's. So, the effort of 1 person can really change your school's rank by 250 places.

But with such small cohorts, your school can really rank from 100th to 600th just with a few people getting multiple Band 6's. (ie. 1 band 6 from each person would correlate to your school ranking top 100)
