I've had no experience with them, but now I'm keen to find an engine and have a good look at it.

It's pretty primitive, SOHC and not even crossflow. Supposedly pretty similar to old Merc engines, because Prince (who merged with Nissan) at one point produced licensed copies of merc engines and their own designs were supposedly inspired by that.

OS Giken made a DOHC head for them (cost like 30k) and it sounds great (so do the Nissan S20s actually, that was their DOHC straight 6 from the early 70s)

Watanabe's look decent on MX5s (idk why you call them Miata's btw, that's a USDM term lol).

Watanabe R Type and Volk TE37 are my favourite wheels depending on the car/age of the car.
