whats this census date thing? Does it have anything to do with my tuition fee payment? Cause today, I only recieved the "Students Activities Fee" in the mail... will they notify me of when to pay my acutal unit fees since im not on HECS right now?
And what is meant by up-front payment? Do i go there by person and pay or can i send them a cheque?

THanks very very much :) (btw i rang the uws help-line thing... no help whatsoever *__*)

EDIT: *CSP :)

i didn't get it either...

usually i've gotten it around week 2 or 3... same with my b ro... weird...

people - HECS, which is no longer HECS btw, its CSP or something - has NOTHING!!!!!!!! i repeaet, NOTHING! to do with other uni fees :)

the statement you will receive in the mail is for "student activities fees" - ie stuff you're paying the uni for..

CSP is like a gov loan so you don't receiev anything from the uni directly invoicing you for it, ever

Voluntary Student Unionism will actually come into place in June. However, since students studying at University for Autumn start have already enrolled, we still have to pay the Student Activities fee which applies to all Universities. Until next year, then we don't pay this fee. CSP, you will pay the expenses provided by the Government when your income salary a year is above a minimum set by them. You are a CSP (Commonwealth Supported Place) student Walking_Mushroo because if you weren't, you would be paying your whole University tutition upfront.

By when do continuing students have to hand in their CSP form? Or don't we have to hand one in every year?

i was talking to my aunt who works at the SRC at Usyd and she said there is NO CONFIRMED DATE for the introduction of VSU yet... so don't plan anything around this... plus - depending on the conditions placed on what services will and wont be deemed viable to continue, whether or not you want to pay may change. Plus - there is yet to be any confirmation that the fees will remain the same so best just to wait and see.

And 1st years - you need to remember Union and uni related fees have NOTHING to do with HECS/CSP so VSU will not affect this in any way.. a lot of you seem confused about what money is paid to whom.. you really need to reaed through the information you got at enrollment if you are confused because it explains everything.

Easiest way to tell if you are CSP or not if you aren't sure if you've paid any money yet or not - just look in the enrollment pack you got - the copies you kept of the forms you fille din state on the front cover what 'kind' of student you are.

Plus - just because you're a CSP student - don't forget you can pay off some of the fee - you don't have to leave it all to accumulate, so check through your forms to see what you agreed to and to see if you do want to pay off some of it ahead of time or not.

Are you sure? I've definitely read somewhere that it was supposed to come into effect on 1st June (or maybe July) but definitely one of those two. Just can't remember where I saw it.

^ yeah i read that too, but it said something about only affecting students that enroll in mid year

And I am certain I am Not a CSP student. The problem I am having is that I got a fee for 'Student Activities' but NOT my actual unit fees. Im just wondering if the fee invoice made a mistake or if it is coming in the mail at a later date...

She said that's the proposed date on which it will be officially recognised but not the date it will be implemented.

Think about it - uni semester's differ to begin with so it would make paying fees a pain in the ass for some unis, plus semester 2 doesn't start then and not everyone runs on a 2 semester year... it makes sense to not use that as the 'official' date since especially 1st year students are confused enough by it as it is.

You won't get your actual unit fees for ages - that being CSP fees.

These are released AFTER census date.

The census confirms you are enrolled partly for financial purposes - so why would you be receiving an invoice for a course you aren't officially recognised in yet?

Don't worry about it. When you get it, you get it. And if you're a CSP student - you could get it in 2 year's time and it wouldn't make a difference as long as you get it before you s tart working.

I wish the bloody government would jsut leave things alone...
lol why would they when uni students are easy to steal money from coz they know we can't afford full fee pay either so the only option would be not to go to uni....

The cost was ridiculous to start with but now it's just unbelievable - my undergrad course will cost over $41k... sooo jealous of people who started in 2004 coz they don't get increased fees..

I still don't get why they put us on the new system since we started uni on HECS. I would've thought it would make more sense to just start CSP with 1st year students but then again.. it is the government after rall
