HSC Marks: English Standard - 82, Mathematics - 76, Software DD - 76, Information Processes Tech - 77, Design and Tech - 78
ATAR: 69.60

Firstly, the course I want to get into is the B of Science in Info Tech, Diploma of Prof. Practice in I.T with a cutoff of 85 in the recent UAC book. As per my atar, I got an additional 5 bonus points on top of that, so I'm sitting at 74.60 for that course. I've heard from many people that some get into that course with atars of 75? What are my chances exactly?

Also, would you think that courses' cutoff will drop?

Off topic, as you can see my subjects were low scaling obviously and it had a massive effect on my atar. The atar calculators were being kind to me....

My backup is going to be either UTS insearch or my already accepted early offer at the university of wollongong for B of I.T. (I still would rather go to UTS due to distances)

Your chances aren't looking good. I would definitely think about alternate pathways if I were you.
A lot of people with your ATAR don't even both going to uni so I'd suggest you look at where will take you for a computing-type course and then do well and transfer after first year.

Probs not.

Look, I don't think you should blame your low-scaling subjects. You got mid band 4s. If you got those marks in the sciences you wouldn't be looking at much better. (and you probs wouldn't have since the sciences are regarded as ~harder~ and that's why they scale better) Maybe 72. Which would still not get you into your course.

Well we'll see on the 16th of January for the offers. If insearch is too expensive, I could go to wollongong uni because that is already accepted at the moment. In terms of transferring, what exactly does that involve?

Umm i wouldn't exactly lose hope still keep it in first preference, but i would advise looking into different options at this stage. There is always options to transfer from courses but keep in mind you will need the grades to make that work.
As for the ATAR, the marks aren't bad don't be disheartened, however scaling works on the idea to spread out everyone taking into account the mark distribution making it more fair for people doing a harder subject. Because if the marks were considered raw then everyone would doing easy subjects as that would almost give them certainty of higher ATAR

Thanks for the reply. Yeah definitely not losing hope, I've got two backup pathways ready if the UTS main round offer isn't accepted.

Not sure where your evidence comes from because the ATAR cut off points for many degrees suggest that students with much lower ATARs go to university and do well.

The best advice you can be given at this point is to ensure you have fill in the NINE choices carefully according to what you really want to do.
