I just had a chat with Richard Buckland at CSE, and he said that changes will be made for the COMP1711 and MATH1081 clash.

Apparently Richard had moved the lecture to Thursday last year but the changes didn't fall through before MATH1081 took that same spot and now theres a clash.

Richard said he'd look at moving the clashing lecture into Friday.

And he said also....ignore the COMP1711 requirements - they are not meant to be there.

edit: as mentioned below, the clash has been fixed, with the second hour of the 2 hour block of lecture moved to an earlier timeslot in the day.

Do it if you are keen on programming and computers. If you find that it is too hard, you can drop down the normal computing.

haha .. i just read..

"so we encourage all Software Engineering students to enrol in COMP1711"

"You can move to COMP1011 if you find it doesn't suit you. If you don't try COMP1711, you will never know whether it would be appropriate for you.
"

oh well, guess i'm changing to higher comp right now..

I didn't ask Richard that, I saw him in the afternoon again but I think he was still busy checking it out.

Probably keep an eye on myUNSW looking for the change. But I'll ask Richard again next time I see him.

Last year he split the 2 hour block into higher comp-discrete-higher comp, but this year because of his own reasons he can't have the second comp lecture that late so he has to find another timeslot.

If you haven't seen already, it seems Richard has decided on this:

"If you have a high maths mark you SHOULD do 1711 (that seems to be a good indicator of computing aptitude for many students). If you don't have a high maths mark you are still welcome to do higher if you are feeling enthusiastic. BUT if you don't have a high maths mark you need to print out and sign the form "transferring INTO 1711" and hand it in at the CSE school office."
