Next year if running, otherwise 2008.

I still not sure if I should do 3111, I personally hate that subject... makes me feel lke I am an 1337 senger where I am not really one... Interestinglyy enough, it is not required by my half-COmputer Science degree, but other COmp Science degree requires their student to do 3111... weird....

EDIT: HM.... If I don't do 3111, I can do COMP4601, a course on FPGA design :) :)

hopefully he still remembers me! though I no longer have a cse account...so had to send it through Unimail...hopefully it won't matter!

I was just thinking though, if i do take 2011 next session that would mean I would have pre-req to do a 3rd year COMP subject....BUT if 2011 is being modified into a 1st year course, would I have enough knowledge to understand/do the 3rd year COMP subjects?

How does that work? I thought all CompSci major must take 3111.

Depending on what COMP3xxx you want to take, but most of the interesting ones will require knowledge of JAVA, which you will not get with the new 2011.

Gman, COMP4601, I see no site for it, nor any listing on NSS pages, this be a new course?

Nevermind Gman, looked up the TC site in case it was a new course. I see it is. A course Oliver according to the .rtf proposal (but proposed by Sri at the meeting it seems)

COMP3222 and COMP3601 are pre-reqs, 3222 is what the old COMP2021 (kind of), and 3601 is new also, so when are you even planning to do this course (if at all) G, seems there are too many barriers, since the course is so new

hmm, Richard still hasn't replied to my email :(
just wondering....would it be a bad idea to just drop in and see if he's there? (or is he hardly in his office and it will be impossible to find him anyway?)

Yes, changed in order doesn't mean change in difficulty. I find java intrinsicly hard, those in Usyd they do it in first year.

School of EE&T is a joke and is disorganised in so many aspect.

Yeah I realised that, i think the pre-req is just Advanced Comp Arch renamed into something... besides they are targeting Comp Enger rather than Eenger... Oh Well..


So any news from Richard yet?

Hmm, interesting. According to the handbook/myUNSW, it seems Richard is the "instructor" for both 1921/2011 *and* 3441 (crypto). Is he doing both?

Or otherwise - which one of us is going to miss out? :p

dam..a thought just came to me...will the lectureres still check their email since it's stuvac/exam period??

Still can't decide between COMP2011/2041 *sigh*

COMP2041 will teach you perl, COMP2011 will teach you nothing.

Totally agree!
Perl is so useful, I have no regrets learning Perl.

Also, 2041 is one of the bludgiest courses. Although, since 2011 is a prereq for most 3rd yr courses, wouldn't that be the better choice?

why not just do both? if u're comp sci, u have to do them both anyway don't u?
