I was just thinking because like, the sticker on the memory says 400MHz, whereas the cpu would be running at 333MHz, that it might cause some kind of catastrophic failure. :(

In other words, I'm scared.
When I had a 2500+ Barton I was able to easily overclock it to run with a FSB of 200 MHz (400 MHz effective) to match my RAM. But it doesn't need to match, so don't worry.

Waaaaaa u beat me because it overclock.

you know that the save OC speed for quad is 3ghz rite? because at ur speed you going to short live your cpu.
lol that only depends on the voltage you put through it and the heat, the recommended heat max heat for a q6600 is 75 degrees, mines at 53 on 100% cpu =P, i have a zalman 7900 cpu cooler and a antec 900 gaming case lol.

Did you need any cooling equipment to do that? I've only got a CPU fan, a PSU fan and a video card fan running atm, without the side of the case on. Will that become unstable or anything?

EDIT: Oh awesome it works now and it's running a little over the average capacity at those forums I looked at! ^_^

Hmm. Best I have atm (no cash atm either) is an old fan from a 10 year old HP computer. I doubt that'll be of any use. What if I just keep the cover off the computer and face a room fan into the box? It'll be a bit noisy and cumbersome but surely it'll get the job done? :rofl:

Do you have ramsinks? Or just put that fan you have over the ram slots.
@manicsoul: nice oc there, is it prime stable?

After a google image search I'm assuming that ramsink means heatsink. Yeah I got one on my cpu with a fan already (obviously), but my northbridge dealie doesn't have a fan on top of it.

ah ok, if you're not going for a big oc you dont need a fan for the north bridge but check how warm it is anyway. Ok im guessing the ram doesn't have heatsinks on it so try put that fan over the ram slots if you can get it to hold there or tie to some part inside. Something like this http://eclipseoc.com/phpwcms_filestorage/1/1_117.jpg

I'm going down to the store tommorow to buy a couple of cheap fans to put on the front and back of the case. I might be able to put this old one dangling over the northbridge/ram depending on what happens. If I need to I'll get another! :D

EDIT: I'll just try what Dumsum said (I'm hoping he'll come back and tell me what his cooling things were like). Put the fsb speed from 166 to 200 so it goes from 1.8GHz to 2.2GHz.

he wants to feel special.. haha;

seems a lot of ppl have an 8500GT here;
running the test atm..

i still think that the 3dmark06 is a better test graphically.
btw this is the complete test;

I overclocked it and now it has a passmark score of 314.7. Putting the FSB speed up has had a tremendous impact on almost everything. Especially the ram. I did it still with the default HSF, albeit with a few noisy fans on the case. ^_^
