watch out, rafy is in town.

What quality posts you bring to the moderation team, madam!

Having ragged on you people, I'm opposed to CSU, or any compulsory fees being levied upon students. I've only experienced the situation at USyd, so it very well may be different at other universities, but it doesn't seem necessary to me. I'll be applying for one of those financial hardship thingos, me thinks.
No financial hardship refund for USyd Union fees. Never has been.

Why thank you, sir!

My point stands, though. Students, as a whole, don't pay a lot of tax. So no, Labor doesn't care about us.
we also don't vote homogeneously on single issues

damn our individual opinions!

I've never received a satisfactory explanation from a leftie for the massive contradiction in the positions they advocate. On one hand they harp on about student poverty and high HECS debts, while at the same time wishing to impose a large fee on students.
Obviously they argue that the fee benefits them more than the initial cost...?

(Edit: For clarification, I'm not arguing the point. :p)

Bastards.

On a side note the Labor/Socialist event at Turnbull's office yesterday was tragic. I laughed when I saw them.

Dear friends

Yesterday, Youth Minister Kate Ellis introduced legislation into the Federal Parliament to abolish voluntary student unionism.

The government's proposal, a compulsory fee of up to $250 per year, is nothing more than a regressive student tax to fund student unions.

This tax will be charged regardless of your ability to pay, or whether you want the services that come with it.

This is the last thing students need during an economic crisis.

However, the Australian Liberal Students' Federation is doing something about it.

Today I launched an innovative campaign website to take the fight to the Rudd Government’s student tax.

stopstudenttaxes.com allows you to do your bit to defeat this unfair proposal. You can sign the petition, write to the senate and answer ‘yes’ to our poll. You can find about the myths and facts behind the debate and follow our latest videos on YouTube.

Please visit Stop Student Taxes right now to get involved.

If you want to help get the message out to other supporters, there are other ways you can help.

Set your facebook status to “[Name] is fighting student taxes by visiting www.stopstudenttaxes.com”

Post the website, Stop Student Taxes, on your Facebook wall, so that all your friends can see it. The more people who visit our site, sign our petition and write to the Senate, the better chance we have of winning this battle.

If you’re on Twitter, you can tweet about this appalling policy – using the tag #stopstudenttaxes

With your help, we can defeat this proposal. We certainly can’t do it alone.

Cheers

Bah, I welcome it.

This battle isnt about giving money to the left, it's about whether we want to foster a closer community on campus, or whether we want alienated individuals ordering a degree like they order a burger.

VSU is a bad for academic results and bad for society.

Sure there is! The fee, like tax, is really the best incentive we have to ensure that people engage with their community. United by greed!

I just think that the right should grow a pair and take on the left in honest battle for these funds instead of pulling down the temple on all of our heads. I pretty much dont care what the money is spent on. It's the spoils of war, to be used by the victor in a manner consistent with their platform. The ancient art of rhetoric is threatened!

Yeah I'm on a GPA of 5.4, VSU has been heaps bad for my academic results. I'm sure being able to afford text books because one doesn't have to pay $400+ in fees is really hurting other people's academic results too.
