I been diagnosed with Depression and recently ADD (Asjustment Definicy Disorder) and I am living with my mum's friend who has a daughter aged 12. I can't get to sleep because I can hear them talking until like 11-12 at night and they are always loud and whenever mum steps in it's always as if I am the problem or the fault. I can't study because of the noise they make and when I tell them to stop making loud noises, few hours later they start doing it again. I haven't studied because of this reason and mum blames me for the reason. Then yesterday my sister is in New York and she was scared sh*tless because then it was a category 4 and now it's a 1 but I am still worried about her.

Should I get a illness/misadenture form and give it to the school to tell them that recently it's been hell for me and I can't really consentrate for exams because of stress and mental illness?

I have a mental disorder that makes me unable to ignore background noise e.g. planes (right now), cars driving by or birds. It's annoying as hell, so I just listen to my music really loud - this might distract some people, but not me - and block out everything around me so I can focus.

My situation is different from yours, but the music really helps me focus. ( block out people talking)

In your case I think I would talk to a school counselor and see what they think.

Agreed. Definitely talk to your year advisor, or even a teacher you're just comfortable with (they will do the appropriate steps to get the issue sorted out for you.) I hate to see students struggle during the school year, and added issues certainly doesn't make it any easier. I know it's not ideal, but to maybe help you mind be at ease, are you able to study after school at a library or somewhere quiet? Certainly talk to a few teachers about it, and maybe they can suggest some alternate methods of study or be able to make alterations and accommodations to suit your situation. I think the music method might be able to provide a little bit of ease to, perhaps also talk to your specialist regarding your ADD they might be able to suggest some methods to help combat the difficulties for you.

I know it's hard, but don't give up. You're bound to find a whole team of support at your school, and they'll input the appropriate measures for you. All you have to do ask and talk to them. n_n Best of luck.

May I also add, you can actually ask any teacher to help you (That is they may arrange for you too see the year advisor etc.)

As others have said you need to talk to people at your school about your situation if they aren't already fully aware of what's going on. Note: every teacher doesn't need to know what's going on with you, my year advisor doesn't know the full picture about me only 2 teachers and 1 deputy know I have depression because I simply do not get along with her and don't feel comfortable/deem appropriate for all my teachers knowing the full picture.

From personal experience with my teacher's all you need to do is say something along the lines of 'I have outside issues going on that's affecting me, I'm trying to deal with them and I thought I should just let you know' the reaction I would quite commonly got/get is 'ok thanks for letting me know and if there is anything I can do for you just let me know'

Regarding your yearly's you have grounds for a misadventure/illness but you may still need to sit them (depends on your school) and then get an estimate later. At my school (depending on the HT) you would just be given an estimate of some sort after getting proof from a doctor and/or a letter from home explaining the situation.

Thank you.
The councilor knows about my mental illnesses and she is only here on Tuesdays at the high school (she is at the Junoir and Prep schools in other days as well as working somewhere else). I have a Tutor (like homeroom) and I won't see him until probably tomorrow (since my first exam starts Tuesday but I have to watch HSC Drama performances all day), so I can ask him or the Head of Learning about the situation.

I wish you the best of luck. Don't ever give up, because you can get past this.

I think that it might be helpful to find other areas instead of home to study, such as the library or a friend's house.

Please do talk to your councilor/year advisor. Good luck for the exams!
