Honestly, I reckon its because students dont know any better. When you're in the younger years, teachers etc build the HSC up into this mythical, apocalyptic event in your life.

THIS. All throughout the junior years we get about how the hsc is this horrible experience and you have to study all day every day. It really isn't that bad. It's kind of like in primary school when you get told that high school is so much harder because the teachers don't care about you because they've got 5 different classes.

I hear this from so many people but no matter how many times I hear it, I'm still going to end up panicking. I don't want the thought of relaxing and then doing badly in my assessments as a result of that.
On the other hand, I did think the school certificate was a big deal. Now that I look back I agree it was nothing however I can only say that from hindsight.
