is anyone here doing debating?
I did debating four years ago, went to finals for western sydney. Four years later, ive decided to pick up debating for my cv :D i have this speech due on monday about anything... focusing on a contemporary issue within the wider community i.e. global warming etc.
I already have my idea formulated... just confused about how to go about it :S
should i use a word for word speech? or write dot points to expand upon ?
I think i could make it although there are a few good people trying out who have debated before etc. :|
any other general advice on "making an impression?"

ty :)

don't write it word for word

debating, especially at the high end, is all about key words on your palm card and then being able to talk off that, because there's just not enough time to write entire points word for word...

and make sure you speech is structured clearly, and has a point to it. don't just waffle and go nowhere - come to a conclusion.
Agreed

I've done debating for 3 years n now i do mock trials.
Another pointer... don't freak out, its the worst thing u can do (one year a girl in my team started vommitting in the prep room...:haha: YUCK i noe. but hey thats lyf!), keep calm and pretend u own the show!!! Be CONFIDENT!!!

good luck!:)
