My UAi was just too low to be able to do B Commerce this year. The 2007 UAI for B Economics is lower though.

I'm presuming that cut-offs won't change drastically this year, but I have been trying to do a bit of research, looking at various websites and course descriptors.

What is the difference between a B Commerce and B Economics? It seems like you can study economics as part of a commerce degree? I'm so confused!

They're actually pretty similar. I'm doing a doing a double degree in economics and commerce lol.

Basically, the only real difference is the choice of majors you have. And yes, you can do an economics major in commerce. And if you want, you can do something like accounting or finance as a secondary major in economics (you have to do some form of economics major as your primary major though).

Personally, I don't understand why the cutoffs for Economics in Australia are lower than that for Commerce. In the UK, for example, economics at a good uni is one of the hardest courses to get into.

He didn't say that at all. Commerce is just as creditable in Australia as Economics. (maybe even a bit more so)

Politick was being sarcastic.

Economics is seen by some (many) as not being a relevant nor practical degree. I tend to agree.

As I said, I have no idea. Thanks for the opinions though. What is "wrong" with economics?

nothing is wrong
economics forces you to choose it as one of your majors whereas commerce doesnt

the lower uai means there lower demand, the quality of the course depends on the uni

Because I said 'credible' not 'creditable'.

Another stupid fuck.

Does no one else see that Commerce is a fucking mickey mouse degree? 'Oh I major in Accounting' is not something anyone of any sort of intelligentsia would say.
What are you studying then princess?

As hinted, from your bos profile... Academic Programme:
Bachelor of Economics (Econometrics, Economics)/Bachelor of Arts (Politics)
Industry Interests:
Accounting/Banking/Finance, Engineering, Government, IT

Yep, so your doing Economics, and Econometrics, and Politics. Explains a lot.
When did you think commerce was simply just about accounting? Tard.

With the amount of people that I know who have transferred out from Economics degrees into a B.Comm (not for accounting), I stand by saying an economics degree is about as relevant as the price of tuna fish in zambodia. You though, have combined politics into it, giving yourself even less chance. Best of luck with it all though buddy.

Now now politik, I never said or even implied that my opinion was outright correct, just that I developed it based on quite a few people giving me the same response. I mean enough people say the same thing and you have to start questioning.

I never knew you did Quantum Physics? Guess thats where you got ur l33t vocab from.

...by the way, whats an "e-fight"?

EDIT: Oh dear. You really should have taken that off your sig buddy.

It depends on the Uni offering it.

The difference is usually that in a BEc one of your majors has to be economics, econometrics, economic history or another economics related major. The other can be another business major. You can replicate the same thing in a Comm degree.

In actual fact your degree matters very little, majors, marks, honors and university of study matters much more.
