Electives just means that you can choose any subject you want - biology, psychology, chemistry, accounting, etc
General education courses (I think you're referring to the core subjects) are subjects you have to do and pass to complete your course (i.e. subjects you have to do before you can graduate)
free electives are subjects you take within your faulty ie ASB offered subjects
general education course are outside your faulty (ie you cant take an ASb offered course as a gen ed)
