Direction of Torque???????? (1 Viewer)

How do I determine the direction of the torqueI know how to use t = BIAn cos theta (however you spell it) But I can't figure out the direction!!!!

didnt you learn some sort of right hand rule to determine torque direction? i remember i did. should be in your textbook if you can't remember.

Thumb points in the direction of the current (conventional current, from posite to negative). Your fingers represent the lines of the magnetic field, and the force is perpendicular to the palm (i.e. where the palm faces is where the force is acting...like a palm facing down would mean a force is acting down).

Using this on each side of the motor, you say clockwise or anti-clockwise from the direction you are looking.

Ok thanks, I was just confused because our teacher didn't teach us the right hand palm rule, instead he taught us some other one, and its just confusing. All I needed to know was that you measure it at both sides of the motor.
