Yeah IT @ UTS doesn't need textbooks, they have reading notes and stuff which are about $20 for the subject but no real textbooks at all, the stuff is taught in lectures and tutes/labs (if your tutor is smart that is).

Other subjects like business need them, he only does BIT so he's lucky...

Never take the text to the lectures. I converted to a paperless semester this year. So much better! Although, it happened to coincide with my Dell's battery dying.
