Is it making any strange mechanical noises? If it does, the hard disk is probably damaged, and it will need replacing.

I wonder if they will add the drop protection to the 5th gen ipods, cause i reckon they get dropped alot more than powerbooks.

Win98 never had USB support to start with. I think its more that iTunes only works on XP/2000, so you must have those for iTunes/iPod to work.

Do you think it would work with the Winamp plugin?

There was one of the earlier versions of vpod made to work with '95 and '98, that might be worth a look.

In that case, it might sound like hard disk damage, have you tried formatting the iPod?

Do you think it would work with the Winamp plugin?

That I'm not sure, though I'm pretty sure Apple wouldn't make it so easy!
