The triangle rule for vector addition is just a special case of the polygon rule.

Use of vectors in HSC Maths is negligible; you are not required nor expected to know the Polygon Method.

Do you mean as in adding vectors head to tail?

I think you need to know how to do it and calculate it for HSC, but can't remember exactly if it is in the syllabus or not, so I could be wrong.
