a) Is the moderation process influenced in any way by your rank in the HSC examination?
b) If i was coming third in chemistry after all the school assessments for the year are complete, if i was to provide all my notes to the rest of the class, and that allowed people to get better marks than me in the HSC examination, would this pose me any disadvantage?
My thoughts are that it would only provide me with advantages, considering it would raise the average mark for the class and thus reduce the dragging-down effect on my mark.

Yeah, you should help your cohort after trials for the reasons you stated(Raise average mark). Especially the people at the bottom

I'm not an expert in this stuff...
I think helping people after trials is actually going to do you more good than if you were to have helped them before trials. I could be 110% wrong though.

Helping your fellow students in class is definitely beneficial after trials as your whole cohort earns your marks together and then they are distributed.

As for before trials, it can help but not as much as it increases your competition.

However, don't get into the pattern of getting carried away with it.

Also, for me, helping others would help me discuss things with others and refresh myself with something as well as learn something new possibly.

Hence, I advocate helping people whenever possible all the way through if they return the favour and help you sometimes too. Best thing you can do in uni is have group discussions where everyone is on sync and you re-affirm each other's thoughts on some things.

Always aim to help your cohort, even if it is before trials because if everyone's marks are really close together, and everyone does really well, everyone gets a high mark.
