Yes it is possible to use split screen. I use a VGA splitter. It uses 1 vga port on computer, then i can use a monitor and a projector from the splitter

A splitter will give you identical images on both ports - not what the original question asked....

So basically i would need an additional video card?

Would this new video card be able to be plugged into the normal expansion slots or would it go somewhere else?

Yes PCI is the "normal" expansion slot. Its usually a short white/cream coloured one on your motherboard. The brown/black one if your AGP slot. When you buy the graphics card, it would be marked as a PCI card (as opposed to AGP).

And now that you've asked, you'll have alot of eager people telling you about the new PCI Express, and they'll be telling you to wait for PCI Express because its so good and so much better etc etc.

i have yet to see a USB2.0 digital tv tuner
perhaps there are but not widely available
also you will have to have usb2.0 because digital tv tuners will require all the bandwidth possible

don't buy external units, they are crap and expensive!
just get internal pci one, but cheaper and higher quality, with more variety of brands and price range to choose from
