Hey,

Given that UNSW are changing the core units of both their BEc and BCom next year, do you think this will have any substantial impacts on the ATAR requirements?

Previously, many people who didn't get the UAI for BCom would simply do BEco and attempt to transfer after first year. However, now that the two programs do not have the same core units, a transfer would not be as simple as it once was. Do you think this may result in a decrease in demand for BEco?

2010 Core Units:

BCom: (4 compulsory and 4 electives)

BEco: (6 compulsory)

The reason I'm asking is I'm interested in BEco, and a fall in cut off wouldn't be a bad thing IMO haha.

Demand for BEco will be the same as it usually is every year. Both BCom and BEco at UNSW are popular degrees so ATAR requirements will only go up or down within certain range.

As for transferring between them, I'd assume you'd just do the same courses as you would in commerce (that includes the electives within your chosen major) and just transfer after 1st year.

But I must admit... It's such a big change for you guys next year? And I also find it quite ironic how BCom will have a higher ATAR requirement although its first year core courses are a lot fucking easier than those of BEco? However, the electives you'd have to do in BCom would probably make up for this, depending on what you choose?

Haha yeah mate, definitely looks like ATAR/UAI is no indicator of comparative difficulty of the courses. I myself want to make BEco, as that interests me more than BCom. But if I don't make BEco at UNSW, probs BAppFin/BEco at Macquarie and maybe try and transfer down the track?

Haha yeah that subject really doesn't appeal to me. If you're that serious about management skills, I guess you would do an MBA after a few years experience anyway. More valuable than a single subject I'd guess?

Bs..if only I was 1 yr behind then I wouldn't have suffered QMA. At least now they realise their mistakes.

Externally transferring would be a bitch.

As for MGMT1001, it is piss easy. It's so easy that you should look at it as a way to get yourself an easy 6 units of credit as opposed to your other subjects.

Yeah external transferring is definitely not my choice haha. I would certainly prefer to make UNSW BEco straight up. Just gotta hope I go fairly well at the HSC!
