i mean even though the way they assess english in australia is really weird, it's still pretty important to have at least senior level english education. same with maths, i think they should make some sort of level of maths compulsory until year 12

IMO maths should just be compulsory and english should just be there for people if they want to do it.

An essential English skill is actually just grammar, punctuation and syntax. This is the only thing tested in the US's SAT English section

They should teach more useful stuff like comprehension and writing reports or articles or anything useful for careers. But analysing literature is pointless unless u want to do humanities

which is already done in science subjects since NESA also made it a requirement to have a reports assignment as an assessment

English isn't that bad, it's most people's best-performing subject.. I think it helps a lot with academic writing and improving your literary skills. As much as I hate english it is not completely useless, it is more beneficial than maths being compulsory bc literary skills are required in every single field. I think the flaw of the subject is that it’s solely memorisation and nowadays everyone uses AI or copies exemplar essays, which is why people aren’t sufficiently developing their skills and realising the importance of the subject.
