Hi,

I was just wondering if it is possible to get a UAI of 99+ if you don't get a band 6 in English but a band 6 in all your other subjects. Have any of you got or heard of someone getting a UAI of 99+ without a band 6 in English advanced?

Thanks for your attention,
Rheyn

I'm sure its possible. Especially if the Eng score is say 89. Depends on how far your Eng score is behind by.

You do Extension 1 English? Band 6 in that?

But yeah it's possible, so long as you don't get a band 1 or 2 for English

Definitely possible. My friend got 99.45 UAI with 84 in English (Standard).

He did:

English Standard: Band 5 84
Mathematics Extension 2: Band E4
Mathematics Extension 1: Band E4
Mathematics (as an accelerant): Band 6 = 99 (top 5 in the state)
Business Studies: Band 6 = 94
Physics: Band 6
Chemistry: Band 6

I am not entirely sure about his marks in MX1, MX2, Physics and Chemistry. One thing I know is that, he got 48/50 when he first did MX1 as an accelerant but he repeated it to get higher mark. For Physics, Chem and MX2, he was the first in the school.

it's possible i think, especially if you do brilliantly in everything else (i.e. band 6s well into the 90s.)
p.s. amazing that that person got 99+ with standard english mark.

Well, English (Standard) is only a 2-unit subject so it only counts for 20% (even though it's significant to some extent).

Another example of 99+ UAI with English (Standard):

He got 99.90 UAI with:

Physics: 98/100 (top in the state)
Mathematics Extension 1: 49/50 = 98/99 out of 100 (as an accelerant)
Mathematics: 100/100 (top in the state, as an accelerant)
Mathematics Extension 2: Band E4 (don't know the exact mark, but estimating 98 or 99/100)
Chemistry: Band 6
English (Standard): 88/100
Spanish Beginners: Band 6

wow... Though, that's an exceptional case. The majority of the state would never be able to achieve that UAI with a Band 5 in Standard because they wouldn't be able to achieve multiple state rankings (not to mention 2 subjects first in the state). In that light, English is crucial, particularly standard due to its scaling.

Yeah, true. But that gives people some light of hope that you can achieve any UAI with English (Standard).

But 2U Maths wouldn't be counted. So thats more reason to believe 99+ is possible to get with Std Eng.
