Alrighty, another year, another set of exams (for me) and another excuse to procratinate majorly by fiddling around in here.

This one is a big hello to the English Extension 2 Class of '07. This is just a poll to see who's doing what for their major work, and will give you a bit of an idea of who you'll be talking to over the course of the next year or so if you decide to stick around. I hope you guys do stick around because most students who post in this forum are pretty cool, and it is a nice place to hang around.

But without wasting any more time: Class of '07, what medium will you be using for your English Extension 2 major work?

Anyone who is not doing English Extension 2 in 2007, please do not vote.

Have fun! Hope to see you around.
Justin

Just a note: I am aware that I will probably be stepping on a couple of toes with the way I have set up the poll. Unfortunately we are only allowed ten options, so I had to do the best I could.

I will likely use creative writing as my medium, and write a single story, or a variety of shorter stories.

if anyone is thinking of doing some sort of dramatic medium, or woteva, other than simply text, either film/video woteva, please just consider
Radio Drama
- its the least chosen medium (aside from "Film" which has never been chosen) with like less than 20 people doing it a year. I did it for my HSC and it was bloody brilliant! The only reason ppl don't do it is coz they know nothing about it - people have read short stories, read essays and seen short films, but how many people of your generation have heard a radio drama? please please please don't just knock it aside and actually consider it!!!

if u want more info message me and we can talk about it !!!1

Holy shit I almost did a film. Ok well not almost but I considered it and had a pretty well developed idea/plot/concept etc. Then I canned it because I knew nothing about making a film.

Aside from that all I have to say for you 07's is START NOW.

I'm not kidding. Now. This very second. In term four think about your idea/concept/medium etc etc, but I would try and write a couple of hundred words a night, even if you don't think you'll use it, just so you have something to bounce ideas off etc.

OK I lied I have one more thing to say.

START RESEARCHING NOW. Even if you have no idea what you want to do, starting by reading books/watching films etc and jotting down notes in your journals about what you liked/didn't like can help you not only by giving you a lovely thick journal but by starting to actually THINK about what you want to do.

OK long winded I'm sorry.

give it time, young one. Draw your literary circles of magic and pull them in with your charm :p

In other words, give the class of 07 time to find BOS ;)

isn't there a difference between video and film? Something to do with quality of equipment used (accessible vs so expensive only private schools can afford it?) I remember one of my ee2 friends explaining something like that to me *racks memory*

yer glitterfairy there is...

VIDEO - you use a video camera

FILM - you literally use film cameras, i.e. 35mm movie film

... to make it simpler...

VIDEO: <img src="http://media.schoolofvisualarts.edu/sva/media/2481/medium/pana-agdvx100a">
(or something smaller like a more common home movie camera)

FILM: <img src="http://www.educationuk.org/uk_culture_guide/images/film.jpg">
...and there's spielberg jnr here :p

On the upside, we now have a poet! Although in the time between checking the poll and writing this comment, I've forgotten who it was. But I applaud your choice of medium. You know who you are. =D

I was thinking of writing a longer story, more the novel type. Am I aiming too high? What would you advise?

I'd love to make a film but I don't really have any ideas yet. I can't bare to make a film about teenage angst or one of those the-world-is-against-me type of things. :)

I'd really like to do scriptwriting (drama) but I'm also looking at speeches a little bit too.

Two words baby: "Word Limit" :(

However it's very possible to do a short story that you intend on extending later, or even a short story that forms a minor sub-plot of a greater novel you plan on writing one day. :)
