In my point of view, English should remain a compulsory subject for HSC as English is a crucial subject where we can gain valuable knowledge that may prove useful for our future career.
However, I do not think that English must be counted towards our UAI. It just seems unfair for people whose academic strengths do not lie in this particular subject. There are people who see the current system being atrociously unfair (not just Asian people who tend to perform worse in this subject, I have seen countless White Australians getting stressed due to this subject).
After reading this, people would go "If English doesn't get counted, why even do it in the first place?". However, what I am proposing is that English doesn't need to be counted towards our UAI if we can satisfactorily complete the requirements set by the Board of Studies.
So, what's your view?
