Are bridging courses a good idea for people who don't need it as assumed knowledge? Just in case i choose to change degree to one that does require assumed knowledge.

e.g.enrolling in physics while i'm doing a medical science degree (assumed knowledge- maths and chem)

Is it really beneficial?

If it is recomended knowledge, I'd go for it but you prob don't need it...might be wasting ur money...Having said this, IDK for sure

its not recommended and thanks.

but how do you argue the point that its "an opportunity and all lessons are beneficial" plus i'm being pressured into doing it "incase" i choose to switch to a degree which requires assumed knowledge.

and would this benefit me in the future..say..after my first degree will it widen my options?

if its not assumed knowledge, don't do it. yes, it might be an opportunity, but bridging courses do take valuable time as well as money. if you do decide to change in the future, can't you always take up the course then?

as for any advantages it presents in the future...to be honest, unlikely to be much.

Can you tell us specifically what courses you are interested in?

Yeh good point, thats what i think aswell.

what im really after in this thread are reasons to persuade my parents, who really want me to do this course, that it's not suitable. they say the money isnt an issue and if i mention 'time' they flip and go on about 'its just one month for your entire life' and 'its just you wanting more time to socialise'.

i've told them i can take the course later but their arguement to that is im not doing anything in the next month (kinda like strike while the iron is hot situation)

bridging courses are for 'short term' (like they not that advantagous for my life unless i was picking a physics course (which im not))

sinophile:

i accepted med science at unsw..assumed is maths and chem (which ive done) and recommended is bio ( which ive also done)

another point my parents had is to broaden my exposure to science...???? then again their point is "just incase"

edit:thanks for the help guys, keep it coming pleasee :(

If your parents are forcing you to do an irrelevant bridging course, bitch slap them and tell them to fuck off.

Your parents seem so gah =='

1st reason = monies will go bye bye
2nd reason = waste of time
3rd reason = you can just skim through a text books which saves $ if you swap courses, it really isn't hard.
4th reason = you won't be changing your degree anytime soon as you've spent lots of time working out which degree you want to pursue
5th reason = you want to make the most of holidays while they last
