okay, so i've got my math extension half yearly on wednesday, and division of polynomials has always really been my weak point in the course. it's clicked, but i'm thrown when theres 3 factors (if that's the right word) in the divisor. so, for something like..

(2x3 + 4x2 – x + 8) / (x2 – 3x + 2)

how do i go about it?

Do it one step by one (using like a root-look-alike method).

Then you will get 2x^3 + 4x^2 - x +8 = (x^2 -3x +2)(2x+8) + 19x - 8 (remainder, this is)

Well, I am sorry. But this question is simple. I don't know how to explain it because simple method is used here.

Go to fitzpatrick book or some other textbook. They will have the method to use which is simple and easy to follow.

2x^3 + 4x^2 - x +8/(x2 – 3x + 2)=[(x^2 -3x +2)(2x+8) +19x-8]/ (x2 – 3x + 2)
= 2x+8 + (19x-8)/(x2 – 3x + 2)

Thats what I would do, its pretty easy if you do that. I'm just too lazy to do it at the moment, also I dislocated my thumb so I cant really write.

long division is the way i learnt it
normally i just use that alpha + beta = -c/a
thats providing there is no remainder.

considering you broke your thumb - and can't write
wouldn' t you get out of the test?

Awww bad luck. What did you do?

Playing netball at sport haha.
I didnt have to write in class for a while so that was a bonus but it was annoying because I was in a studying mood the night that I did it
