Mum: congrats on getting your p's. do you want to check ur uai on my computer?

Me: Not really, its gonna suck so bad. I'm only aiming for 70 coz my brother's got 38.75 and 50.00.

Mum: Don't worry, I'll be happy with whatever you get. As long as you did your best.

(An hour later...still can't get onto site...goes home and keeps trying to get on...finally get on.....UA! unexpectedly flashes up when I was unprepared.....85.50!)

Me: (stares blankly at screen)
:jaw:
(rings mum)

Mum: that's fantastic! I'm so proud of you...etcetc

(mum rings dad...dad rings me)

Dad: congrats! thats excellent, i love you, etc etc

Overall, good responses. And everyone was happy.....later that night....rings friends...

Me: what did you get?

Friends: Yeah not too bad....95.05 and 98.45

Me:

lost my pin so i had to wait for it to come in mail...

comes the next day, i read my shitty UAI, put the letter down then proceed to do something unproductive.

Dad walks in: "Did you get your UAI"

Me: "Yeah"
Dad: "Ok"

- awkward silence, dad does something then leaves -

hours pass.. Dad finally comes back

"So what did you get?"

Me: "81.7"
Dad: "Oh... are you going to uni?"
Me: "Yeah"
Dad: "Ok."

My life is awesome.

Mum nearly died of shock. She thought that I was gonna get like 75 and was praying I'd get over 80 because I'd worked so hard.

Dad was proud, it was around what he expected (he used to be a deputy principal so has some idea about how these things are done).

PS. My UAI was 97 I cracked up when mum said she said she thought i would get 75, with my results i would have cried if that happened.

Didn't you realise from your ranks that you wouldn't get such a UAI?

With the subjects your doing, i would find it hard to believe it would anything less than 80

my brother got 83.45

my dad was really happy

patted him on the back and was, to my surprise, smiling... something he doesnt do too often nowadays

i could've sworn that a year ago he said he'd be very upset if my brother got below 85

No, no, no, my mum is defn the evil one
both of my parents think i'm going to fail the hsc

dad keeps mentioning programs in the army and stuff and always shares little innocent lines like, "you know tafe is a great option as well"

i don't understand, i'm like well above average at a selective school ranked 20 in the state.

its funny to listen too though.

It would have required u to do umat...and do very well in umat unless youre hoping on getting into uws and u live in the gws region. Then ur right in the hunt ! For UNSW with that uai umat probably needs to be 190 ish-200.
Even to get into UWS med, you'd still need a very good UAI. competition is still strong no matter which uni it is. Everybody wants to get into med, esp all the asians. My UMAt score was bad but it wasn't that bad and I still got rejected for UWS med before the UAIs came out.

Isn't UWS a 95 cutoff.
95 is a lot easier than 99.50 (median for UNSW)

you still have to get ~9x pct UMAT and interview performance is heavily weighted.
