For the locus bit:

Let C be midpoint of PS, ie. C (ap, a/2(p^2 + 1))

ie. x = ap, y = a/2(p^2 + 1)

ie. p = x/a

ie. y = a/2((x/a)^2 + 1)
2y = x^2/a + a
x^2 = 2ay - a^2

Thanks a lot everyone! makes a heck of a lot of sense now. I still need some work with parametrics though; although I highly doubt a question like that would be asked (yet).

OMG!:mad: I thought it was to prove that it's the circle.

I hate parametrics!!!!!!!!

its not that bad, just takes a little getting used to, wait till you get to projectile motion thats practically all co ordinate geometry and parametrics
