why is it so hard to get good marks in standard???? i dont get it somebody explain
Not many people get good marks in English Standard because most bomb out in the AOS exam where they go up against the English Advanced people. If you can ace the AOS, then you will be likely to get good marks in it altogether.

Btw Bookie, ESL scales a bit worse than Standard and Advanced:

Riviet, students don't get band 6's in Standard because a band 6 student would not be doing Standard English.
Ah that makes sense, thanks for clarifying that. ^^

I think around 10 students from my school got a band 5 in Standard last year so there's definitely more than 2.

I agree. I hate it when ppl say how hard it is to get a good mark in standard eng and use the lack of ppl in standard eng getting band 6 as an example.

Damn.

What does this thing mean anyway? Do we just add these points onto our score? cos that'd be heaps mad

I'd have [2003 stats];
MX2 +18.9
MX1 +14.8
Economics +6.0
Physics +5.3
Eng Advanced -1.6

and hopefully; Cosmoslogy +17.1

I don't think you add it up

If you read the stuff at the top, you'll find that these figures are just the scaled means minus 25. (e.g. the scaled mean for Mathematics Extension 2 in 2003 was 43.9/50)
