Probably the increase in HECS fees have deterred a lot of people.

or just less people interested in going to uni this year from year 12
ie. like a gap year or something

probably a helluva lot of reasons. Either way, a lot of applicants are going to be happy this year

Do you think it has something to do with the rising cut-offs of previous years? like a lot of people realising that they won't make it into Uni so why even apply?

I have a feeling this decrease is mostly in the lower achievers and well... it won't have as much of an affect on the cut-offs as everyone seems to think.

11 thou at UWS, one of them has to be me lol. I only had one non UWS pref, but the UAI needed for that is about 10 marks higher then what I got and about 20 marks higher then the course I want to get into.
