Becuase it mostly concerns me and my micro world.

female. I guess it's because of the gender stereotype and also you see mainly womens' magazines (eg. women's day, dolly, cleo, cosmopolitan, shop til you drop, new idea etc. etc. etc.) which have some sort of celebrity spanned on the front page and more within the magazines

6. What is good about gossip?
ummm.....nothing really i guess, just keeps you informed of fashion fads etc. and what the celebrities are wearing

7. What is bad about gossip?
there are some things that are not really necessary to gossip about.

4. Why do you talk most about the topic ranked number 8? It feels important to discuss how people are getting along, how people are viewed by others, who likes whom, who we can relate to, what we can say about people in front of others.


5. Who do you think gossips more- Males or Females? Why? Females because they generally like to know what's going on and are more interested in close personal matters than males who are just as happy to discuss footy, movies, etc. Sorry that was a very stereotyped answer.


6. What is good about gossip? There are positive and negative types of gossip, however i think it generally has bad impacts when strong opinons are discussed. If it is light, casual, catching up gossip then it may be ok.

7. What is bad about gossip? It promotes exaggerating, lying, opinionated discussion that has the potential to offend others. It does not really have a purpose, just idle chit-chat, which makes it largely unneccesary to indulge in.

bcoz we tell each other everything and go into detail about lots of stuff....dont matter how personal most of time

thats a hard one...females are probably the stereotypical gossipers...but iv only recently found out how common it is for guys to gossip as well...we just dont see it that much - if ever.

i guess there realli isnt much good in it - unless u go from the perspective that 'any attention is good attention'

hurting pplz feelings, damaging repuations, lies and truth being mixed up

because i talk about it more than the other listed topics.

i think that gossip needs to be more clearly defined to be able to answer this question properly. i would say that neither gossips more than the other.

nothing.

7. What is bad about gossip?
it is a waste of time to bother prattling on to jane and fred about mary and joe. gossiping facilitates the emergence of the spiteful side of a person.

10. In your opinion, why do people gossip?
i don't know why people gossip. people exist in too big a variety to generalise. but from observing the people in my life who gossip, i've wondered if they gossip because their lives are empty of social activity, and of the pseudo-excitement that they perceive, e.g. celebrities to have, and i've wondered if they gossip because it distracts them from thinking about their own problems.
