Hey, i was just wondering, what do the GPAs convert to in marks?

I mean, what's a 3.0 GPA? Is that good?? Is that a credit average or a distinction average, or what?

it depends on unis ... since your going to macq (im guessing), a gpa of 3 would be a credit average ...

in unsw, i dont think they got a GPA ssytem. following is the grade distribution:
> 85% = High Distinction
75% - 85% = Distinction
65% - 75% = Credit
50% - 65% = Pass
< 50% = Fail

is it the same in other unis too?

GPA sounds like something from one of those colleges in America where all they do is party all night and get drunk and they never seem to study.

But that's just TV.

lol...I thought as much until I realised I needed a 3.0 GPA to transfer degrees next year...then started panicking

Luckily though, I figured it out through the good folks of the Media department at MQ.

GPA : Grade Point Average
system in which mark is converted to a pt between 0 n 6, i think

I thought it was between 0 and 7.

anyway anything above 4 and your doing pretty good.

Each grade is assigned a weight called the quality point index (QPI; A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0, K=0). The QPI multiplied by the number of credits for the course is the quality points (QP) for that course. The sum of all the QP (quality points) divided by the total number of credits attempted gives the GPA.

Its actually standard across all unis
high distinction = GPA 7.0
distinction = GPA 6.0
credit = GPA 4.0
level 2 pass(?) = GPA 3.0
pass = GPA 2.0
i dunno if this is accurate...just off the top of my head

No!

Macquarie system (a very flawed one, in my opinion):
Distinction OR High Distinction: 4
Credit: 3
Pass: 2
(Conceded Pass: 1?)
Fail: 0

I've never heard of it for any uni other than Mq, where it's:
>=75 = D or HD at other unis = 4
65-74 = CR at other unis = 3
50-64 = P at other unis = 2
Pass Conceded (marks depend, usually 45-49) at other unis = 1
Fail = 0

take that for each subject, then take average.

a uni degree is a uni degree. Just cause a certain uni has a lower uai than another uni does not necessarily mean that the standard of work there is any less.

If you dont plan to transfer is there any use for the gpa?
I heard it doesnt even go on your diploma

MinAi isn't entirely correct there ... and don't worry ... the UAC rescale everything when you want to transfer to another university!

It might be useful on a resume ... but then again, not that useful after your first job! And it's about ego for some people!
