I know both songs well, I cant see what u mean by spamming, cause they are different styles of music, ones Hard Rock (gunners) the other is metal, more specifically Bay Area Thrash Metal (Metallica)

apparently SPAMknot are very 'hardcore' at it too. (they spam worse then Metallica)

They should really learn from Guns N' Roses - Sympathy For the Devil how to make guitar spam sound good.

Emotional (melodic) solos > spammage
Hence Ledbetter>*;)

Led Zeppelin and Hendrix stuff are just brilliant.

But as a guitarist my favourite to play is Layla (Unplugged) by Eric Clapton (also the greatest song ever :) )

Hotel California live is quite nice too.

Dave Gilmour, Comfortably numb live (pretty much every dvd/video I've seen) does an awesome solo.

Countless Jimmy Page ones.

I love Head's (Korn) solo on their cover of Another Brick in the Wall, very elementary, but its awesome to hear a Korn solo.

Dragonforce - Valley of the Damned. My favourite Metallica solo is Astronomy.

I'd have to agree with Led Zeppelin - Stairway to heaven.

But the riff from RHCP's Can't Stop is pretty cool.

Riff != solo.

Hmm well.

First and foremost i'm appalled no one has mentioned Clapton's solo from "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on the white album. Not to mention the cool live versions.

Next, i don't like the stairway solo so much. Sue me. I love the solos and guitar work in 3 o'clock blues by BB King and Eric Clapton.

Anything Zakk Wylde plays should be worshipped. You guys should stop sucking Jimmy Page's dick. Sure he's great but seriously.

One last note - Tommy Emmanuel's acoustic solo cover of House of the Rising Sun is the peak of acoustic guitar virtuosity and should be a point of aspiration for all players.

I haven't listened to Jap stuff for aaaaaagees :p

But hmmmm X Japan, Luna Sea, L'arc en ciel, Kagrra, Dir En Grey (that's more screaming than guitar solos =/), Merry, Diru, Gackt etc.

hahahah i don't think there's a point in me just naming them :p It just reads like a whole wacky bunch of wacky names.

But i have a few links and stuff so if you want some examples, you can PM me.
