This is taken from Tim Winton's short story, Neighbours.

“The young man abandoned the 20th century novel for the telephone.”


i dunno what technique is this? help me plz!

I don't know what technique i can't remember it's in my opinion is commenting on how modern society is abandoning the old ways are getting more technological. I will try to remember what this technique is called

Generally when i don't know what technique it is, i usually think of symbolism or figurative language first and see if it matches lol.
