I think most people seem to find combinatorics and binomials amongst the hardest topics.

Perms and combs killed a mark in the MULTIPLE CHOICE for me last year...

But across the broader scale I think applications of calculus and binomial theorem are still harder?

shame its not in extension 1
pretty sure it is since there's a whole unit dedicated to it in cambridge

and it was in my term 1 assessment for 3U

edit: turns out it's part of harder 2U so i guess we're both right and wrong haha

You'll never see the financial stuff in the 3U HSC.

Also I don't get what everyone finds so hard about perms and combs. There are much harder topics imo.

I find Perms and Combs, SHM and Projectile Motion the hardest, and probably estimation of roots the easiest

Technically, yes, perms and combs is not the hardest topic (or not meant to be), but it's still typically problematic amongst students because it introduces a completely new way of interpreting the question. Even circle geometry isn't as bad due to 2u geometry, and binomial theorem is just really intense algebra.

For me its definitely been Circle Geometry. Do feel its a bit like the other topics you have to put the time (which I havent done as much for) aside to get the understandings of the concepts right. Its a topic where you have to know your terms, you have to know the laws pretty well in order to explain it well. How do you get better it? Just do heaps of questions

I enjoy projectile, SHM, inverse trigs, related rates, binomial is not as scary as I thought it was, exponentials and curve sketching are good.

Never seen a student say that Estimation of Roots was a hard topic before. It's something that can most certainly be made very difficult, but I've only ever seen one or two such questions before.
