Hi-def DVD security is bypassed

The encryption on high-definition DVDs has been bypassed, the consortium backing the copy protection system on discs has confirmed. At the end of last year a hacker claimed he had defeated the protection on a number of HD-DVD titles, leading to fears the entire system was broken.
But the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) Licensing Authority has said the breach is limited.

haha is breaking news! someone hacked something omfg!

this is no big deal, blu ray is better imo [hopefully sony wont lose ala betamax when again their media was superior]

the porn industry is behind hd dvd though, because sony has a policy against smut and wont let that content be put in blu ray.

1. HDDVD is significantly cheaper for only slightly reduced capacity. It's better.
2. Porn industry has shifted more to the internet than anywhere else, so it won't have as big an effect.

O well, if there are encryptions, there will always be hackers.

He didn't completly circumvent the protection system. He only found the encryption keys to a movie that he couldn't play on his pc because he needed a monitor with a HDMI and a DVI cable both connected to the monitor.

blu ray is shit, sony are fucking assholes with content protection,

when they introduced a copy protection on some of their new dvd's that meant half of all dvd players wouldnt be able to play it, they shrugged it off and said it wasn't their problem.

they introudced a copy protection that installed what was essentially a virus on your computer if you wanted to listen to music.

complete fuckwits, dont support blu-ray

They installed a rootkit, and its more akin to a trojan than your standard-fare virus.

Its still technically a virus in that it opened up a backdoor which then could be used by hackers to target infected systems...sony got it really wrong and they copped it big time...forced to refund peoples' monies....had to settle a class action lawsuit coz of their insanity and gained notoriety once again...personally i dun care which format wins..as long as they release a multi-format burner or player im happy

25gb is slight?

Per GB Blu Ray is cheaper .. something like 0.40 compared to 0.60 US dollars..
