help with economics, am i cooked? (1 Viewer)

hi guys as the title says i need some advice for economics and if im cooked.
so my current situation is that i did really bad in my task 2 assessment, got like 47/70 im pretty sure which has significantly affected my ranking (btw i go to a top 10 school and am aiming for a 97+ atar)
the main reasons i did bad i think is because im not really that interested in economics in general so was kinda not motivated to properly study and only picked it bcs i didnt know what else to choose in yr11 and now im at 10 units so im forced to do it bcs i cant drop anymore.
How do I make a comeback for task 3 and trials and eventually hsc? So far I only have a very shallow understanding of the whole economics syllabus so im wondering how im going to have time to learn everything before trials, asides from the fact that I have absolutely no idea how to write economics essays and probably am really unfamiliar with lots of topics in general. My task 3 for term 2 is gonna be a research task on topic 3 (economic issues), which im thinking gives me a little more leeway time to learn everything else and catch up before trials (task 4) in term 3 but I'm not really sure how im going to manage everything on top of all my other subjects that I have to juggle as well this term?

Can anyone here give me some solid advice on what I should do between now and task 3, and trials/HSC so that I can (kinda) maybe make a comeback from my terrible term 2 performance? I genuinely feel so stuck and so so wish I could have gone back in time to pick a different subject like music would be much appreciated.

Okay first of all don’t stress. Take a deep breath. What’s been done is done. Can’t go back let’s make that clear. Now, you said task 3 is a research task on economic issues. While simultaneously studying economic issues make some time to catch up on the other topics because some topics are surely intertwined with this one. If you were to allocate like 2-3 hours for this assessment per day (probably 2) spend 1 hour on the actual assessment or an hour and a half and spend the rest of the time catching up on the economics syllabus. It’s helps cause I did that for physics. Also I can’t emphasise this enough but past papers past papers past papers. Do multiple past papers on economics. Once your economics task 3 is over, create a schedule of what past papers you want to complete everyday. Idealistically you wanna aim for 3 papers - one in the morning, afternoon and evening. Follow this and you should be all good

and honestly economics is a great subject but if you really don't like, tbh you're gonna have to push through, its also really high scaling and beneficial for your ATAR

i'd recommend starting module by module, and doing practice qs immediately after you learn a topic, and make sure you're researching weekly on the latest statistics updates for the domestic and global economy, these will rlly help alot especially for essays

as you're working on the research task, spending a good chunk of time weekly to relearn/revise other modules that you've finished

if you put in the effort, get feedback on responses, understand content etc, i'm sure you can do it!!

nah you definitely have enough time, especially if trials are still like 3 months away. but i wouldn’t just start doing heaps of past papers straight away if you still don’t really understand the content. for now i’d probably focus on topic 3 first since that’s your next task. economic issues is actually a good one to catch up with because it links to heaps of essays anyway (e.g. inflation, unemployment, growth, external stability, inequality etc.) so if you get decent at that you’re also building stuff you can use later.

to catch up with the rest of the syllabus i’d go dot point by dot point and make really short notes, not massive textbook notes. like for each thing just know the theory, a couple stats/examples and how it links to policy or another topic and then do practice questions pretty much straight after learning it because otherwise it doesn’t really stick. if you don't understand particular concepts or answers to some of the questions then ask your teacher (or feel free to reach out to me i've been helping people here and there from my experience with the subject)

also for essays, don’t wait until you “know everything” before starting. just start with plans or body paragraphs. economics essays are mostly about answering the question properly and linking cause/effect, not just dumping everything you know and stats etc.

i also wouldn’t recommend trying to do like 3 full papers a day lol, that’s probably too much with other subjects. maybe do regular short answers/mcq, one essay plan every few days and one full essay a week once you’re a bit more confident.
